CURATION AND PRODUCTION STAGES
October 2022 - June 2023: Curation Group and Curation Process
The content of the 2024 Songbook will be curated by a group from all seven regions of the LWF and an eighth group, “Christian Heritage,” consisting of people who work in the field of ecumenical
faith relations from a global perspective. The curation group consists of a professional musician and a
theologian from each region plus two
further regional contacts/reference
persons who are in church
leadership and/or working in theological and
musical education. Altogether, the curation group encompasses people of over 20 different countries in
leadership positions, local church musicians and recognized artists that work also on the secular music scene. Members of the 2017 and 2023 Global Assembly worship team are also included.
Global Collection
Period
With the support of “Regional Multiplicators”, who work
together with the LWF on promoting the Global Songbook 2024, hymns can be sent into this online database from Reformation day 2022 – 28th of February 2023. Everyone is encouraged to send in a local video of the church
community or the
musicians performing the song as they like it in their
style. Next to hymns suitable to
the
overall theme of the hymnal, beloved and new
arrangements of Luther chorales are also welcomed. Secondly, along with the hymns, short prayers of longing, lament, hope and thankfulness as
well as blessings for everyday
life can be contributed.
The curation group will meet physically and online for a conference in Leipzig from 24th-27th November to connect, worship together and broaden their
perspectives together through working sessions
centering on Luther ́s engagement of contemporary musical practices of his time for the reformation movement. -> HERE´s THE LINK

Screening Process
Through a screening process ending in June 2023, the final content shall be selected. Prayers and blessings from all regions of the world shall be chosen
as well that may include descriptions of movements/dance/gesture and indicate a liturgical place or
for the day. Songs of the Global Assembly 2023 in Krakow and selected prayers and blessings will be included as well within the
regular content.
Design Process July 2023
- December 2023
The hymnal will be designed in the fall of 2023 and printed in the beginning of 2024. Its structure is following the arch generated
from the title of the
hymnal:
“Pilgrimage - being on a journey ever deeper into faith, guided by Scripture and the grace of Jesus
Christ. Longing and striving for
Freedom, working toward a more just and generous world for
all creation, shaped by God’s
immeasurable love. Celebrating
Belonging, as one communion
through
the Holy Spirit in the one body of
Christ.”
Presentation and distribution of the
hymnal 2024
The hymnal will be printed in the beginning of
2024 and will be presented at venues in the seven regions of the LWF throughout the year. In June 2024, the historical heritage and its
transformations will be part of a
conference and music festival in Wittenberg, Germany where the hymnal will be presented as well in outdoor concerts and church services.
This conference, hosted by the
Protestant
Academy of Wittenberg, cultural office of the
German protestant church (EKD) and the Liturgical Institute of the German Evangelical Church (VELKD), will lead towards an independent academic publication entitled “Transformations of Lutheranism from Global perspectives” and
center on insights gathered around the global
heritage group and other scholars working in this field.
